Whitsunday Cosmedic Skin Clinic operates differently. Every consultation and treatment is overseen by Dr Melissa McCann, an experienced doctor with additional training and qualifications in aesthetic and laser medicine and more than 15 years’ experience in delivering treatments.
That medical foundation means your treatment is informed by a deep understanding of facial anatomy, physiology, and how skin changes over time. From first assessment through to long-term aftercare, every decision is made with the full picture in mind.
And there’s another advantage to doctor-led cosmetic care. On an almost weekly basis, our doctors identify suspicious lesions in patients seeking cosmetic treatments, working in collaboration with Whitsunday Family Practice’s skin care clinic. Skin cancer risk is high in the Whitsundays, and these opportunistic checks can help to reduce your risk of moles changing into something more concerning. No high-street beauty clinic can do that!

Dr McCann founded Whitsunday Cosmedics Skin Clinic to bring a capital-city standard of cosmetic medicine to the Whitsundays. It’s a rewarding dimension of her medical practice — one that combines patient care, technical skill, and an in-depth understanding of products, devices, laser physics and skin function.
Her training in cosmetic medicine began on the Sunshine Coast during her GP registrar years. Since then, she has continued building her skills through Australian and international workshops, conferences and training, learning from leading cosmetic clinicians.
Dr McCann’s approach is considered and methodical. She describes herself as a slow adopter of new products and technology, preferring to review post-marketing evidence and monitor for unintended effects before incorporating anything new into her practice. Her investment in energy-based devices and products reflects this careful process of research and observation, and she now offers her ‘beautiful community’ some of the most advanced and rigorously tested technology available.
Her background in skin cancer medicine also informs her cosmetic consultations. Dr McCann regularly identifies skin concerns and lesions among cosmetic patients, providing timely advice on next steps, including specialist referral where indicated.
In 2021, Dr McCann completed training as a cosmetic chemist, building on her earlier pharmacy qualifications. Using her knowledge of skincare formulation and ingredients, she has developed her own boutique skincare line, Confidence by Dr Mel.
