What are Fat Dissolving Injections?

Not all fat that we have on the body will respond well to diet and exercise. This is often called stubborn fat and it can a problem for men and women, especially when we get older.
We cannot choose what areas of our body lose fat, which can mean some areas are particularly difficult to tone.
This includes the face and underneath the chin.

Fat dissolving injections are a non-surgical procedure that can be used to break down and absorb stubborn fat. It is a TGA approved treatment that is suitable for men and women looking to decrease the fat underneath the chin. This is commonly referred to as submental fat.
Fat dissolving injections can be used to achieve a contoured jawline.

Before patients are able to have fat dissolving injection treatment, a consultation with our Doctor will be arranged. During the consultation, Dr McCann will be able to advise whether fat dissolving injections are the right treatment option for the patient.
The number of treatments that a patient will require will depend on the amount of fat underneath the chin. While two treatment sessions are common for dissolving stubborn fat cells, a professional will be able to advise how many an individual patient will need.
Generally, fat dissolving injections will be administered every six to eight weeks.

It is important to note that fat dissolving injections are for breaking down submental fat. This is not a procedure that will correct loose skin.
The procedure for receiving fat dissolving injections is simple and relatively fast. A local anaesthetic is used, which will minimise any discomfort you might feel during the treatment.
The patient will receive a few injections underneath the chin, which will work to dissolve submental fat cells. The whole procedure normally takes around 15 to 20 minutes.
After receiving fat dissolving injections, it is normal for the injection site to be red and have slight swelling. In addition, the skin may feel warm and can sting. But, these symptoms commonly resolve within 48 hours after treatment.

Patients can expect to see their results of fat dissolving injections within a few weeks of their first treatment and more so after several treatment sessions.
It is important to remember that the results of fat dissolving injections are individual. This means that every patient will achieve different results with this treatment.
In addition, the number of treatment sessions that are needed will vary from patient to patient. A consultation with a professional will allow you to gain a better understanding of how fat dissolving injections can work for you.

• Downtime: It is expected to have some swelling to the area immediately post treatment, and this can continue for a couple of days (does vary between people). Due to the use of needles, there is also a small risk of bruising.
• Preparation: The treatment area does not need any particular preparation. It is more important to be aware of and prepared for the associated swelling from treatment.
