Non-surgical body contouring in the Whitsundays

Cellulite, skin texture and body shape vary naturally from person to person.

Whitsunday Cosmedics Skin Clinic offers non-invasive body contouring and improves the appearance of cellulite in areas such as the abdomen and thighs using VelaShape®, a handheld device that combines bipolar radiofrequency, infrared, and vacuum suction. Each treatment takes about 30-60 minutes.

Every treatment plan starts with a consultation so we can assess your suitability and help set realistic expectations for your treatment.

How does body contouring work?

This is not a weight-loss treatment, and it is different from spa-style body wraps or massage treatments. The aim is to treat localised concerns relating to contour and skin texture. VelaShape uses:

tick
Bipolar radiofrequency

To heat the dermis, connective tissue and superficial fat to support collagen remodelling.

tick
Infrared light

To add further thermal energy to the treatment area.

tick
Vacuum suction

Combined with a kneading action to aid circulation and lymphatic drainage.

Treatment journey

What does a treatment course involve?

Body contouring is usually performed as a series of sessions rather than a single treatment. The number of sessions recommended will depend on:

Your consultation is an opportunity to discuss how many sessions may be appropriate and what level of change may be realistic. Individual results vary but, in one small study, patients who completed 1 treatment per week over 6 weeks had average reductions of around 1.4 cm at the abdomen and flanks and 1.2 cm at the thighs when measured 3 months later.

Body contouring recovery time

VelaShape typically requires little to no downtime, although temporary redness, warmth, tenderness or bruising can occur. Your doctor will advise you about what to expect following treatment.

It can help to stay well-hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure (always good advice in Queensland!).

Our approach to body contouring in the Whitsundays

As a doctor-led clinic, Whitsunday Cosmedics takes a careful approach to body contouring. We begin with a thorough consultation to explore your concerns and assess your suitability for VelaShape.

This is also an important opportunity to discuss realistic expectations. VelaShape is a body contouring and skin texture treatment. It is not a substitute for weight management and does not produce the same type of change as surgical fat removal.

Understanding body contouring

Does body contouring hurt?

You may feel warmth, pressure and a pulling or massaging sensation during treatment. Comfort varies between people and treatment areas. Temporary tenderness or bruising can occur.

Most people require a course of treatment rather than a single session. The number recommended will depend on the treatment area and your individual response.

Changes are generally gradual and may become more noticeable over the course of treatment and in the weeks afterwards. Results vary between individuals.

There is no fixed duration. Body weight, ageing, skin quality and other individual factors can continue to influence the treated area over time. Maintenance treatments may be considered in some cases.

As a doctor-led clinic, we are well-placed to assess your suitability for VelaShape, including judging the relevance of your medical history.

VelaShape may not be suitable for some people, including those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, have certain implanted medical devices or implants in the treatment area, or have certain skin conditions, recent surgery or other medical conditions. Your doctor will discuss any relevant contraindications and precautions with you before treatment.

There are many other contraindications which your doctor will consider when reviewing your medical history at your initial consultation.

Cost depends on the treatment area and the number of sessions recommended. Fees will be discussed once we have assessed your needs and proposed a treatment plan.

A body wrap is a spa-style treatment where the body or a specific area is covered with products such as creams, gels or clay and then wrapped for a period of time. Any temporary change in circumference is generally associated with fluid loss rather than a change to fat or connective tissue.

Non-surgical body contouring uses device-based technology to target tissue beneath the skin and may help improve the appearance of skin texture and firmness over a course of treatments.
